SUNDAY TRAINS CANCELLED

SEQUEL TO COAL SHORTAGE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 14. Because of the necessity of conserving coal stocks, the Railways Department lias decided to cancel a number of Sunday trains in different parts of New Zealand. It was stated in Wellington to-day that the decision to cancel these trains would take effect immediately. No information could be given as to when the restrictions wore likely to be lifted, but the measures adopted do not apply to express trains, railcars or electric services. In the Auckland district 18 local passenger trains which usually run on Sundays have been cancelled, and twelve services, principally on the Manawatu line, have been deleted from the Sunday schedules in the Wellington district. Sunday , passenger trains between Dunedin and Onmaru and Christchurch and Timaru have also been cancelled.
