DOMINION AWARD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May. 14. “Wages for adult male workers have been increased to bring them more into line with the rates now being paid to operatives in similar industries, in some cases as a result of the mutual agreement of the parties in conciliation,” stated Air Justice Tyndall in a memorandum attached to tbc new Dominion, clothing trade employees’ award. For the same reason, a lessor proportionate increase had been awarded to female operatives. The existing bonus clause had been altered to allow workers to elect their representatives for the purpose of negotiating with the employer. Mr A. L. Monteith dissents in respect of rates of wages for journeywomen, the bonus clause, aiul the .underpressers. The minimum wages fixed are (those in the expired award in parentheses): Second-class chart cutters £5 os (£4 17s Gd); stock cutters and trimmers, £5 (£4 12s Gd); examiners in charge of finishing room. £5 (£4 12s Gd); pressers, £5 (£4 12s Gd); youths other than apprentices employed at seam opening and at underpressing ; (£1 2s Gd to £4 10s (£1 2s Gd to £4 os); male casual workers, 2s lOd an hour (2s 10d); journeywomen, £2 12s Gd (£2 10s); females in sorting, ticketing, boxing, and distributing, 17s to £2 12s Gd. (17s to £2 10s); female apprentices, 17s to £l 9°> (1/s to £1 9s) • female improvers, £1 14s to £2 os (£1 13s to £2 3s). COAL lARd'wOMERS’ AWARD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 14. An application for a Dominion Coal and Coke and Firewood Yards Employees’ Award was heard by the Court of Arbitration to-day. The union sought wages of £5 per week for permanent employees and 2s 9d an hour for casual workers, and asked that piecework payment on a commission basis be prohibited. The employers suggested wages of £4 5s for weeklv workers and 2s Id'aii hour for casual workers. Decision was reserved.
