CALEDONIAN PIPE BAND

TO CONTINUE ACTIVITIES. A meeting held primarily for the purpose of reorganising the Feilding Caledonian Pipe Band took place last evening, Mr J. Wemyss presiding over an attendance of some forty members and supporters. The business of the adjourned annual meeting was dealt with and the financial statement read by the treasurer (Mr F. Dalzell). Mr Wemyss expressed his pleasure at the large attendance of ladies, stating that in the past the women had played a prominent part in the activities of the organisation. He invited questions al ul suggestions for the strengthening of the band. , +1 . . . The treasurer stated that at present the deficit at the bank stood at £3b Os 6d. ~ , Mr D. G. Fraser, a past-president, said that when ho relinquished office as president there was a credit balance of £25, and Mr Alex Campbell, also a past-president, said that when ho resigned the credit stood at approximately £OO. , ~ The treasurer said that since then the band had been living “from hand to mouth.” . Mr Dalzell moved a motion that those present were definitely in favour of furthering the band’s activities. The motion was seconded by Mr Campbell and carried unanimously. It was stated that there were only four pipers who attended practises regularly, while seven drummers had been continuous attendants. Mr Wemyss said that the meeting desired to know bow many players could be relied upon to give service regularly. It was then ascertained that there were twelve pipers present and these signified their willingness to attend regularly. It was agreed that, with this assurance, the band should carry on. Noble) reported that the attendance of drummers had been very good, and the improvement in the drumming had been shown by the high percentage of marks received at the various contests in which the band had competed. Mr Cruden referred to the headquarters of the Pipe Bands’ Centre, stating that delegates from Wanganui, Dannevirke and other places had to journey to Wellington. It was desirable that the centre meetings be held in a more central town. It was stated that the Now Zealand headquarters were situated at Christchurch, and it was decided to have the main hoadquarters transferred to a more central locality. It was decided that the executive consider the question and instruct its delegates to support the effort lor a charge at the next conference. Mr Woodroofe, of Palmerston North, intimated that the Feilding band could expect every assistance from Palmerston North in its activities.
