EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” MAY 15, 1910. A memorial service to King Edward was to be held in All Saints’ : Church, Palmerston North. All the local military units were to parade. The Mayor (Mr J. A. Nash) was elected president at the annual meeting of the Palmerston North Beautifying Society: Cabinet had granted £2700 towards the rebuilding of the Palmerston North High School, recently destroyed by fire. The Board of Governors had £I4OO in’hand .from the insurance .on the. old building. The men who were trapped in the Whitehaven mine, which was reported to be. on fire after an explosion, had been given up as lost as the rescue parties could not reach them on account of the flames.
