TWO MEN FINED.
Two men were convicted by Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., in the 'Magistrate’s Court yesterday, oil charges of being intoxicated while in charge of a car. Alfred Arthur Ganderton, slaughterman, aged 26, was charged with driving a car while in a state of intoxication. Mr A. M. Ongley appeared for defendant, who ' pleaded not guilty. Evidence was given by Dr C. W.- Peacli that when lie saw defendant at the police station lie was far from sober and not fit to drive a car. He also wanted to fight two policemen. Defendant here altered Ins plea to one of guilty. He also pleaded guilty to a charge of driving without a license. Mr Ongley said defendant had driven the car only for a very short distance. For driving without a license defendant was fined £l. On the major charge he was fined £lO, with witnesses’ j expenses £2 2s, and was prohibited from obtaining a license for 12 months. ployee, aged 44 years, pleaded guilty, through Mr G. It owe, to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a car in King Street on May -4. He also pleaded guilty to driving a car when not the holder of a license. Senior-Ser-geant Mclntyre said defendant was seen to back, the car from the kerb in King Street at 2.15 a.m. Mr Howe said defendant had offered to back the car which was 'owned by Ganderton from the kerb for another person, and was then to get out of. it. Accused was fined £7 on the intoxication charge and prohibited from obtaining a driver’s license for 12 months. On the other charge lie was fined £l, and ordered to pay £1 Is medical expenses.
