MANAWATU MEETING.
WORK AT AWAPUNI. •STRONG TARANAKI TEAM. (By “Spectator.”)’ Horses engaged at the Manawatu Racing Club’s winter meeting to bo held at Awapuni next Thursday and Saturday were worked this morning, when most of them were given their final preparatory gallops. The flags were in the middle of the course proper, which was m good condition, and should bo in excellent order for the forthcoming racing. Hunting Lore, Clarion Call and a companion went over a mile in 1.55. Gay Jean and v Selkirk wore given, a good threequarter pace gallop over seven furlongs. Aurora’s Love and Colonel Bogey were also galloped over a mile and covered the distance in 1.50. Aurora’s Star was sent over a mile in 1.55 and was joined by a companion over the last five furlongs, which'were covered in 1.11. Sceptre and Francis Drake did a sixfurlong gallop in 1.22, Old Surrey was sent over a mile with Brazil, and they did the last six furlongs in about 1.25. Moradabad and King Mcstor were companions over five furlongs, which were
covered in 1.10. Gaelic Song recorded similar time over this distance, which he covered alone. Quadroon pulled up slightly lame after his race at Otaki, but appeared to have recovered this morning. He was not galloped fast. Among the visiting horses is the strong team brought by the New Plymouh trainer, H. Dulieu. These raced at Otaki with somo success and should again be prominent at Awapuni. The team includes El Meynoll, ICaiwaka, Golden Hind, Young Charles, Heroic Maid and Tidcwaitcr. All were worked to-day and are in good order after their Otaki racing. Tidcwaitcr is in fine condition, and should run another good race at Awapuni. Among those given pace work were Vadanoc, Renascor, Red Cat. Last Acre, Golden Enterprise, Fauvotte and Lord Cavendish.
