Y.M.C.A. HARRIERS.
The Y.M.C.A. Harrier Club held a five-mile handicap race from the Sportsground on Saturday afternoon. The course was identical with the one used the previous week and the hills were slippery after the recent rain. The runners were divided into three packs. The first 12 to finish were as follow (no times taken): A. Wilby (7min), 1; J. Cole (7min). 2; H. Wilbv (7min), 3; J. Roberts (7min),.4; W. Meder (7min), 5: 8. McYicar (7min), 6; G. Seator and C. McVicar (3min), 7; J. Woodd (3min). 0; K. Galloway (scr). 10; D. McCardlc (scr), 11; J. Spall (scr), 12. The first pack ran considerably better than in the previous week and all finished within six seconds. J. Cole, a new runner, should develop well later, while J. Roberts and AY. Meder should also improve. G. Seator and C. McVicar were the best of the middle markers, although .T. Woodd, who lasted the* distance well, was not far away at the finish. The scratch men were Iv. Galloway, D. McCardlc. ,T. Spall and N. Hearsev, and all showed first-class form with the exception of Hearsey, who has put on weight and is not as fit as) in former years. However, he will; probably be able to show liis best within the next four races. J. Spall is prbbably the club’s most, improved runner: J. Scotland S. McVicar have not produced any form yet. and L. Hawthorne, a first-class road runner, has -been an absentee for two weeks. Next week a handicap race will be held from the Takaro Church.
