THIRTY YEARS AGO.
EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” MAY 13, 1910. The Brisbane Clianiber of Commerce had discussed the matter of the Vancouver steamers calling at a New Zealand port before crossing the Tasman. The council was in favour of this if it did not eliminate the Queensland call. Owing to pressure on the railway workshop at Petone to 1 provide new rolling-stock, it was decided to spend £12,000 on additional buildings and equipment. . A sensational accident had only been narrowly adverted when two battleships of the Atlantic Fleet, the Implacable and Prince of Wales, just missed colliding. Their bulls scraped as the boats passed: Messrs C. Yates and Forbes, who had left Quincy. Illinois, for a long distance balloon flight, had been found unconscious in Kentucky. Their balloon had been .wrecked.
