RACES AT AWAPUNI.

MANAWATU WINTER MEETING. With the Otaki-Maori meeting past, interest in the Manawatu Racing Club’s winter meeting, to bo held on the Awapuni course next Thursday and Saturday, lias quickened. Several Awapuni candidates were in action at Otaki, and some gave good accounts of themselves. The main event on the first day of the Awapuni meeting will be the Manawatu Winter Cup, which has attracted some good performers. Several of these tv ore racing on Saturday, and Du' Maurier, Tidewaiter, Mataroa and Aurora’s Star were in the money. The Rangitira Hurdles will be the jumping attraction of the first day at Awapuni, and El Meynell, the winner of the Otaki Hurdle Race, is among those who have accepted. Chat and Master Hector, winner and second in the steeplechase at Otaki, are in the Akitio Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase on the first day of the Awapuni meeting. The Rongotea Handicap, the open sprint, three hack races and a maiden nice complete the programme for the first day, and on the second day the main attraction will he the Manawatu Steeplechase, of £350, over two and a half miles. The track should be in good order if the weather remains fine, and excellent racing should bo seen on both days.
