FOXTON.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) , FOXTON, May 10. Misses M. and B. Chainey, of New Plymouth, are visiting their sister, Mrs C. Dustin. Mr and Mrs 'N. H. Tunnicliffe. of Palmerston North, have taken up their residence in Park Street. Mr Tunniclific is . the newjv-appointed headmaster at tho Foxton District High School. Mr J. Ropilia, of Foxton, leaves fof camp at Papakura on May 15. A visitor to Foxton is Stoker 11. Coey, of the 11.M.5. Achilles, who, with Stoker Smith, is the guest of Mr and Mrs F. Procter, of Purcell Street. Stoker W. Alward lias been ill and is oxpectod home on sick leave. Arrested in Main Street, last night by Constable J. Forsyth, Benjamin John Hay, labourer, of Tokomaru, appeared in the Police Court to-day before Mr D. R. Ogilvy, J.P., charged with being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car. On the application of Mr M. B. Borgin, who appeared
for defendant, a remand was granted until Wednesday next. At a meeting of the Foxton Centennial Committee Mr W. Hale reported that he had made application to the Exhibition Company for certain equipment and piping to enable the committee to carry out the plan adopted for the children’s playground. Unfortunately, the prospects of obtaining the necessary material for constructional work were not bright. , A meeting of the Foxton Women’s Emergency Corps was held on Wednesday afternoon and was presided, over by the Mayoress (Mrs M. E. Porrcau). Members subscribed Is each towards the working expenses. It was decided to undertake sewing for the Finnish refugee women and children. A bogey competition played on the Herrington. Golf Club’s links on Wednesday resulted; Mrs M. B. Borgin 1, Mrs S. E. Crawford 2, Miss A. Neylon 3.
