NOTES. At a meeting of the Pahiatua Golf Club the following new members wore elected; Mrs S. G. H. Hogg, Miss D. Redman, Messrs. S. W. Becdic, J. W. Evans, 11. R. Rankin junr., S. C. Taylor, F. H. Buckingham. The lecent bogey round was won by M. Wilson in the A grade and N. Wilton in the B grade. NOXIOUS WEEDS. Following receipt • of a letter from the Pahiatua branch of the Farmers’ Union asking it to take over control of noxious weeds in the district, the Pahiatua County Council has decided to request the Department of Agriculture to carry out a more intensive campaign for the eradication of woods, more particularly in the north of ‘Ekctahuna county and in its own area.. The chairman (Gr. A, W. Bisset) _ naid the Government inspector was situated in Danncvirko, and -if the council took over control it might have to appoint an inspector of its own. YOUNG FARMERS’ CLUBS. At a meeting of the Mangatainoka Young Farmers’ Club, Mr George Cotter presided. Mr Cotter reported on tnc intcr-club judging competition hold recently at Marton and also tho dog trials hold at Waiptikurau. Congratulations were tendered to the successful members who took part in tho events. It was decided that, the next meeting bo in the form of a debating evening: The Farmers’ Union invited the club to join in with the annual hogget competition to be hold at the Pahiatua saleyards. Mr T. Richardson, of Palmerston North, gave a talk on seeds of pasture plants. The Ballanec Young Farmers Club met his week, Mr R. Day presiding. Tho secretary reported that a profit of £5 6s lOd from the Centennial Ball had been handed in to the Red Cross Society. A club debate was hold, the subject being, “That the best nett returns are obtained by eliminating the plough.’’ The speakers for tho affirmative were Messrs 11. Wilton (leader), M. Horcock and F. J. Holden, and for the negative, Messrs F. Brcmnor (leader), IC. Day and W. Holdaway. Mr C. 11. Wilton acted as judge. The judge awarded ihe decision bv ’a small margin to the affirmative side. Mr Wilton congratulated the speakers of •both sides. RECRUITS FOR CAMP. . The following recruits for the Third Echelon have been called up from this district to enter camp on May 17: —Messrs L. R. Falloon, G. A. Handcock, C. R. Harvey, 11. Kellie, A. P. Kerrison, S. G. 11. Olsen, N E. Pcarcey, F. C. Morgan, E. Faifeita. C. M. Coulter, S. K. Clifford, E. L. Wright, P. F. Neary, A. W. Small, A. E. D. Sargent. W. M, Kershaw and J. A. Ward. PERSONAL. Mrs M. Crane, of Lower Ilutt, is (he guest of Mrs W. Dick, Julia Street. Miss F. Hole, of Napier, is the guest of her sister, Mrs L. D. Lovelock, Walccmati Street. Mrs P. J Shirkey, of Albert Street, is an inmate of the Pahiatua Public Hospital, where she underwent an operation. / ■ . .
