GRADUAL IMPROVEMENT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 10. A cyclonic storm is almost stationary to the east of the North Island, while a weak anti-cyclone covers the Tasman Sea. Forecast. —Strong southerly winds to gales, but decreasing to-night or tomorrow. AVeatlier: Cold and changeable, with rain squalls, heavy at times east of the ranges. Conditions gradually improving, however, from the south. Seas rough to high, but moderating. RIVER GAUGE. Noon.—loft. 9in.
