THE GOVERNMENT.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —May I suggest that “Young Bill” play the roie ot Stalin insieaa of masquerading as a genuine Labour supporter. Ho asserts that Mr Lee's expulsion was ruthless, and that tne electors of Grey Lynn th.nk him “18 carat gold.” It must have been indeed galling for “Young Bill” after reading his own letter to observe in the same edition a resolution, passed at a meeting of 300 Grey Lynn electors, demanding Mr Lee's resignation as their member, and alio expressing unswerving loyalty to the Prime Minister and Government. ' With reference to the Burwood incident, he thinks Mr Semple’s action is likened to that of the Gestapo. Well! Well! In view of the fact that on - this particular job it was costing the taxpayer £3 _los 8d per yard, as against Is 2d as estimated by the P.W.D., it would appear to bo in the people’s interests if a Gestapo were appointed to investigate certain other projects. being undertaken on the same principles. In the case of the Haast Pass project, documentary evidence has been found to prove that at least one. man boasted of spending the greater part of his time “spouting” Communism. In fact, a Government-paid Communist tout. “Young Bill” identifies himself as a sympathiser of them. Obviously he is grossly misinformed, or else‘has no mind of his own. He alleges that the* Government has “decided” to reduce the motor license fee of farmers and market gardeners. When, may I ask, did they “decide” to do so? When does the amended rate come into operation? Not this year anyway. “Young Bill” should, in future, acquaint himself with facts, and not hearsay evidence, before again engaging in correspondence.-—T am. etc.. YOUNG DOUG.
