RANGIOTU.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) RANGIOTU, May 6. Mr J. Duncan presided at the Rangiotu householders’ meeting. There was an attendance of eleven. Mr C. Rose was elected chairman and Mr It. White was re-elcctcd secretary. The new committee also includes Messrs Alsop, Saywell, Crosbic and Duncan. Mr Duncan addressed the meeting with regard to the new school, and stated that there had been little progress made owing to the difficulty of getting the Maoris to isign over the land. It was now proposed to take the land under the Public Works Act. A motion was passed expressing dissatisfaction regarding the progress of the new school and grounds in view of the promises made by the Education Board. At a meeting of the committee, on account of petrol restrictions it was decided to cancel all prearranged basketball and football matches, a modified programme to be decided upon later. It was decided that the Palmerston North secondary schools be approached in ah endeavour to arrange combined action regarding the need of better travelling facilities for country pupils. A proposal to commence school at 9.30 a.m. and plose at 3.30 p.m. was discussed. The committee decided to meet at the school and level the playground in order to ensure safety for the children. A house-to-house canvass in order to collect funds for the school library is to be made at the conclusion of the school holidays. Recent visitors to Wellington wore Mrs V Alve, Mr and Mrs Alsop, Mrs Lament and Mr C. Prior. Miss Rona Russell, who has been in Pahiatua for several months, has returned to Rangiotu.
