OLDEST BRICK BUILDING. The Salvation, Army Citadel, which, it is interesting to jiote, is the brick building in Woodville, is un - going extensive repairs. AVffim J structure was erected' 1 in 1899 the B oiigh Council- insisted that it so be built in brick as a safeguard ag the fire menace. Now the repairs being carried out are aimed at rendering the building safe . from damage b} ea The q Salvation Army was established in Woodville .about 1880, and the first officers appointed were Captain Hamsay and Lieutenant Roberts. The present citadel was openea in 1899 hyp Commissioner Estill. It is also of interest to note that the brkffi used in its" construction were bancim’ade, being manufactured at the oiu brick-works- at one time situated on Mr Hartridge’s property in Napiei Road. In the early days these works manufactured most of the bricks us for building operations m WoociviU and neighbouring towns. .
