CONFLICT AT NARVIK
POLES AID. ALLIES. NAZI REINFORCEMENTS. DEFENDERS STAND FIRM. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyrigh l.) Received Mav 9, 9.5 a.m. STOCKHOLM, May 8. Tlie Germans are reported to have mined Narvik Fiord. Norwegian military officials say German troops have landed by parachute about 30 miles, north-east of the main Os ter Valley, but the Norwegians hold the rugged mountain ranges- separating the Germans from Narvik.
The Berlin correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says it is liot believed the German garrison at Narvik has been reinforced since the arrival of the first troops. A Polish communique from . Paris says Poles are fighting' in Norway. A German High Command communique states: “German ’planes struck two British cruisers with bombs off Narvik. They bombed , the Allied positions and marching troops. One British ’plane was shot down east of Narvik.”
