ADMIRAL OF THE FLEET.

SIR CHARLES M. FORBES. (British Official AVireless.) Received May 9, 10.30 a.m. RUGBY. May 8. Admiral of the Fleet Lord Cliatfield completes five veal's in that rank today. The King lias approved promotion in the vacancy which this creates •of Admiral Sir Charles M. Forbes to he Admiral of tlie Fleet to date from to-day. In consequence Vice-Admiral Sir Dudley North is promoted admiral.

Admiral Sir Charles Forbes, K.C.L., ■C.B, D. 5.0., entered the Royal Navy in 1894 and made rapid progress. He served throughout the Great War, including the Battle .of Jutland. From 1925-28 he was. Director of Naval Ordnance, Rear-Admiral Commanding the Destroyer Flotillas of the Mediterranean Fleet 1930-31, Third Sea Lord, 1932-34, and Vice-Admiral' commanding tho First Battle Squadron and Second in Command of the Mediterranean Fleet, 1934Admiral Sir Dudley North, K.C.V.0.. C. 8., C. 5.1., C.M.G., C.V.0., A.D.C., was on the cruiser New Zealand as a first lieutenant at the Battle of Jutland. Ho was Director of the Operations Division at tho Admiralty, 1930-32 and Chief of Staff of the Home Fleet from 1932-33. Admiral North was A.D.C. to tho Prince of Wales during his Canadian tour in 1919 and extra equerry to the Prince during his Empire tour in 1920. lie has been A.D.C. to the King since 1932,
