ADDINGTON SALE. PRICES VARY. Pci- Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 8. Slightly smaller entries were forward at to-day’s Addington sale. The prices for store sheep were a shado easier, toi fat sheep and fat lambs they were a little better, and for fat cattle there was «■ slight decline on the rates of last week. With a yarding a shade smaller than last week’s", there was an ontry of 5000 in the fat sheep section, and these about mot the requirements. A proportion of well finished young stock was offered, and as the sale progressed a slight appreciation on the rates of last week became noticeable. The prices for freezing sorts remained firm. The top pens of the wethers made up to 37s 4d, with good soits ranging from 26s to 335. Lighter wethers sold from £1 upward. The best of the ewes sold from 20s to 275, with, outstanding pens selling at 30s 7d, and poorer sorts at from 14s to 18s. The store sheep entry dropped to fewer than 8000. Bad weather affected the attendance of buyers and the appearance of the offering, and a general easing in values resulted. Wc-thers comprised the larger part of the entry .the best of those selling at 18s 3d, with average pens going at from 13s to 14s Id. Good four and five-year ewes made 12s 9d to 13s 7d, but an average run in this class sold at from 7s to 9s. One truck of four and sixtooth ewes sold at 13s, with medium sorts bringing from 8s to 9s. Only a few pens of lambs were offered, the best making to 16s. A decline of from 629 to 546 was recorded in the fat cattle entry, and for a good showing of medium-weight prime steers and heifers last week’s animated sale was maintained. For heavier bodies the market showed a slight casing. Cows scarcely maintained last week’s rates, except for exceptional sorts). The best of the beef entry nfade from 36s 6d to .38s 6d a 1001 b. and 40,s was paid for prime medium-weights. Prime heavy steers made up to £lB 17s 6d, with other good sorts ranging from £l2 5s to £l6 ss, Ordinarv steers made £9 to £ll. Heifers ranged from £6 10s to £ll ss, with outstanding types selling at £l3 17s 6d. flood-qual-ity cows made from £5 15s to £lO, with prime sorts selling at £l3 17s 6d. The small initial entry ol porkers caused an increase of from 2s to 3s a heau, but late arrivals caused an easing, and values slipped back to those of last week. Choppers improved by 20s a head. Baconers were in medium supply, and cased slightly. Light and medium porkers made 14s 6d to 54s 6d, heavy 58s 6d to 64s 6d an average price a lb of 7cl to Tjd: and medium baconers made £3 15s to £4 3s 6d, heavy and extra heavy £4 4s 6d to £5 9s 6d—an average price a lb. of 6id to 7id.

The quality of the ox beef in a smaller yarding at the Westfield sale to-day was barely up to standard, but the. demand was good and values were easily maintained. Cattle. —Extra heavy prime steers, £l3 10s to £ls 12s 6d; heavy, £l2 to £l3 10s; medium, £ll 10s to £ll 17s 6d: extra heavy prime young cows and heifers £9 to £lO 2s 6d; heavy, £8 to £8 15s; medium, £7 to £7 15s; runners, £3 10s to £8 3s; heavy vealers, £4 to- £5 .3s; medium, £3 6s to £3 18s. Pigs.—Choppers, £2 15s to £5 Is; heavy baconers, £4 5a to £4 17s; medium, £3 13s to £4 4s; heavy porkers. £2 14s to £3; medium, £2 to £2 10s. Sheep.—Extra heavy prime wethers, 30s; heavy, 28s to 31s; medium, 27s to 29s 3d; extra heavy prime young and maiden ewes, 22s to 245; heavy, 20s to 235; medium, 19s to 20s 9d; extra' heavy prime lambs, 28s to 325; heavy, 25s to 28s; medium, 23s to 25s 3d. STORTFORD LODGE. HASTINGS. May 8. Store sheep met with an easier market at Slortford Lodge, second-class lambs being up to Is 6d a head cheaper. The top price was 21s for an exceptionally good line. Forward woolly pens, 17s to 18s; ewe lambs made 18s. forward wethers, 20s lOd to 21s 3d; four and sixtooths brought 20s. Cattle.—Finished pens, £8 10s to £9 16s; tlio tops of the cows made 27s to a shade dearer a 1001 b.; medium pens, £7 to £B.
