AIARTON, May 9. Air S. Goebel is a patient in the AA 7anganui Hospital, preparatory to undergoing an operation. Air S. Ireland, while pja.ying Rugby football on Saturday., had the misfortune lo tear a muscle in his arm. Airs V. Anderson-Brown, of Atick- ' land, is' at present visiting her mother, Mrs B. Parkes. Oxford Street, Marton. Mr D. Porteous, formerly postmaster at Marton, and now of Dunedin, was a visitor to Marton yesterday. At a meeting of the Rangitikci Referees’ Association on Tuesday, Air G. Thomson presided. In connection with a request from the AVanganui Rugby Union for a list' of Rangitikei referees capable of controlling senior fixtures, Air R. Rivers reported that, he had forwarded the names of Messrs N. Cairncross, R. Baker and I. Ross. . ~ Air R. M. AVatson, S.M., presided over a short sitting of the Magistrate’s Court, on AVednesday afternoon. The inspector of awards proceeded against Joseph Bain, licensee of the Ben .Nevis Hotel, Turakina, for three breaches of the employers’ award. As the defendant had made the necessary adjustments, the Alagistratc inflicted a fine of £4, with costs £1 14s. At a meeting of the Marton Borough Council, the Mayor (Mr F. Purnell) presided. A letter received from the secretary of the Basketball Club, applying for the use of the park grounds and lights on one night a week was referred to the (own clerk (AJr C. C. AfcDonakl), with power to act. The secretary of the AVellington Provincial Patriotic Council, advised that further supplies of wool will he forwarded as soon as supplies are available from the factory. Building permits for £195 were issued for the month. The works committee’s report .recommended that the following works should be carried out during the year: Footpaths: Hair Street, Aforris Street to Cuba Street. Streets: Ross Street, concrete kerbing and channelling; Alexandra Street, from Kensington Street to Golding’s Line; Robert Street, from High Street to Cuba Street. The committee also recommended that all borough buildings bevpainted as funds became available.. The question of tarsealing Alilne Street and).
