FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, May 8. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Harbour Board was held yesterday and was presided over by Mr J. Linklatcr (chairman). Also present were Messrs M. E. Pcrreau, E. J. Bowatcr, H. Osborne, P. W. Goldsmith, and W. E. Barber. Tho pilot (Captain J. Bald) reported that shipping for the month consisted of one arrival and one departure. The Marine Department wrote thanking the board for its co-operation and assistancein the carrying out of the coastal watch. The Social Security Department, Levin, advised that it was unable to reabsorb the men engaged on the watch. The matter was left in the hands of Mr Bowater to take up. Mr F. B. Ilewson, Palmerston North, wrote complaining of tho bad state of the road leading to his section at the beach and asking the board to have the access improved.—Left in the hands of Mr Perrcau.
The Marine Department wrote concerning the stopbank erected by Mr C. Spcirs between Foxton and the Heads. The bankhad been placed too near the river and it was possible that it would suffer damage. There was no reason to fear any damage to the river fairway, however. —Received. The working account for tho month ot April showed expenditure of £23 11s 7d and income £2O 18s lOd less than this. Captain Bald tendered his resignation, to take effect as from June 7, 1940, .and this was accepted with regret. Mr G. Watchorn wrote asking for access to one of his sections from, the board’s reserve.—lfcfcrrcd to the local committee. 4
