THE GOVERNMENT.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —The way recent events have been going lately for the Labour Party as a political party to say the least is very disappointing and discouraging, particularly to Labour supporters and electors who for 3’ears have done everything to build the party, have done little jobs here and there, have helped in every way they could, and witness, as we are now doing, the crumbling of the political structure of the party. First we witnessed the ruthless expulsion of Mr J. A. Lee from the party by a handful of delegates at the Easter conference* when 11.000 electors at Gren Lynn (Auckland) said Mr Lee was 18 carat gold and still is. Secondly, Mr Semple’s action in dismissing the men on the Burwood golf course job. This disgraceful affair has now developed into a national disgrace. "We observe >vith satisfaction ill this case resolutions demanding that the Government hold an inquiry into the Burwood and Haast Pass jobs. This is the nearest approach to ; tha German Gestapo we ever have had in this fine country. , Even during the depression period when the people had a real bad time not once did the National Party members stoop as low as some members of the Government have done, thereby discrediting the party. But that’s not all. The Government have decided to reduce the motor license fee of farmers and market gardeners.' We ask in vain, but why farmers? They already receive from the Government subsidies in the way of wages, freight, and other concessions too . numerous to mention. What about the butcher, baker, milkman ? Do they receive any concessions? The question answers itself. We felt quite sure we were well rid of a farmers’ government when the National Party went, but of power, but apparentlv they still exist. Our advice to the Government is. build the nation’s confidence before it is, too late.—l am, etc., YOUNG BILL.
