GIFT EVENING.
BRIDE-TO BE HONOURED. Miss Phyllis Hebdon, who is shortly to be married to Mr J. Thorburn, was the guest of honour at a social and gift, party given by Mr and Mrs J. Mewett, of Rainforth Street, at St. Peter’s parish hall on Saturday. Chrysanthemums and autumn foliage decorated the hall and supper room. Mr and Mrs Mewett received some sixty guests, Mrs Mewett wearing a hostess frock of black taffeta. Miss Noeline Mewett wore a frock of eau de nil I taffeta, the guest of honour having chosen a frock of apricot shot taffeta. Dancing occupied the time, Mr Mewett officiating as M.C., and novelty dances • added to the fun. Further pleasure was provided by Miss M. Thorburn with vocal solos," self-accompanied, and by Mr Mewett showing coloured moving films of the cherry blossom at the i Esplanade, and many beautv spots in I Now Zealand visited on holidays. During the supper interlude Mr i Mewett asked Miss Hebden to accept ! the many gifts her friends had 'brought. Mr Thorburn returned | thanks for the gifts and the hospitality shown.
