STREAMLINE’S WIN.

LONG ABSENCE FROM RACING. (By “Spectator.”) Streamline, who won the hurdle race at Hawera on Saturday, had reappeared at Waiinato two weeks before after an absence of nearly three years from racing. He seemed big in condition when he won on Saturday, but was going easily in the trust half-mile and pulled up quite sound. Streamline is trained for Mr J. H. Grigg, of Longbcaoh, Ashburton, by G. Ridgway, a leading rider of jumpers, and Ridgway rode him in his success on Saturday. Streamline broke down after finishing third to Cock, of the North and Nocturnus in the Homeby Steeplechase at the Christchurch Hunt meeting in 1937, and Nocturnus went on to win the Grand National Steeplechase, in which Streamline would have been required to give Nocturnus 31b. Before this Streamline had won the South Canterbury Steeplechase and a steeplechase at Ashburton. He had excellent hurdling form and was third in the Grand National Hurdles in 1936 to Jolly Beggar and Clarion Call. That was his last appearance as a hurdler up till this season, and before that lie had a second, three sueecsciye wins and a third over the sticks. His wins were at fimaru and Riccarton. , Poverty Bay Events. \ A change been made in the order_of events at the Poverty Bay meeting. The maiden race is now the fifth, and the hack fiat the second race. —Press Association. Sale of Great Swoop. The estate of Sir Charles Clifford has sold the three-year-old Magnus colt Great Swoop to a patron of J. McLean’s stable at Riccarton. M. Stewart lII.' M. Stewart, the Tc Rapa trotting trainer, is seriously ill. He contracted a cold at the recent Epsom meeting and complications set in. He may not be able to drive again for some weeks. Minority Consistent. Minority seldom rune a bad race, and in recent efforts, when beaten out of the monev, has generally been close to the placed horses. He was last but one when two furlongs from home in the Champion Hack Plate at Hawera on Saturday and put in a great run to finish fourth. Clarion Call’s Win. Clarion Call gave a brilliant display of jumping to win the Egmont Steeplechase. This marked hie second win in the b g croai-country event at Hawera. for be won two years ago with 10.12. His success on Thursday was achieved with effortless style and he gave a faultless display, striding away once the final obstacle had been cleared to win by 13 lengths. Rollicker Surprises. ltollicker, who paid more than a century and a quarter in the Davidson Handicap at Hawera, apparently appreciated the „reasv state of the track. Only £25 was invested on him to win, and his connections did not support him. He was started in the open sprint earlier in the day and finished eighth. Perhaps he was rather lucky to win the Davidson Handicap, however, as Amigo was checked before the home turn, when ho was going well, and probably would have won with a clear passage. Rollieker has run consistently of ate however and in recent starts has seldom been out of a place. He was third in the oppn sprint at Waverley the week before, but bad not, won since the iaranakt meeting in January.
