MR LANSBURY ILL.
SERIOUS CONDITION
LONDON, May 5,
Mr George Lansbury, the well-known Labour member of the House of Commons, aged 81, is seriously ill in hospital, and it is stated that he is,sinking.
Mr George Lansbury has been Labour member of Parliament .for the Bow .and Bromley Division of Poplar since 1922. He represented the constituency in'l9lo-12 but resigned to fight the seat as an Independent and supporter of suffrage for women. He founded and was formerly editor of the Daily Herald. In the Labour Government of 1929-31 he was First Commissioner of Works and Leader of the Labour Party from 1931-35. Mr Lansbury: has. served on many public bodies and he established the find poor law Labour Colony and also the first Labour Colony for unemployed. He. has written several books on economic and sociological subjects and is a-devoted peace worker. Mr Lansbury is a prominent inember of the Church of England. He was married in 1880. and has 12 children. His wife died in 1933.
