WOMEN’S DIVISION.
RONGOTEA BRANCH. Mrs W. Davis presided at the annual meeting of the Rongotea branch of the W.D.F.U., held recently, there being an attendance of 120 members. Those present stood in silence in sympathy with members bereaved during the year. Apologies for absence wore received from Mesdames J. Scott, J. Hunt, Fyfe, Morcom, P. Bottchcr, Bartlett, W. Scott, Will Bower, and Miss Will. Correspondence was received from the Glen Oroua Women’s Institute inviting members to attend its , birthday party, Mesdames Davis and' N. Rowe being appointed. Mrs Milne’s resignation was received with regret, and Mrs Davis presented a spray to Mrs Milne. Delegates to attend the annual general meeting of the Wellington provincial area, to be held at Marton, are Mesdames Foster Boswell, Davis, Powell and N. Rowe. New members proposed were Mesdames W! C. Scott, Cole, arid Messrs Somes, IC. Hunt and L. Parker. The visitors present included Mesdames W. F. Field (Palmerston North) and Barrier (Masterton), and Mrs Davis presented them with sprays, also Mesdames Dear and C. Davison. Miss Matheson presented Mrs Davis with a posy of violets. The president, in her fine report, reviewed the year’s work and thanked all for their loyal support. The secretary’s and treasurers’ neports were also received with great satisfaction among members. Mrs Davis moved the adoption" of the 1 reports and Mrs Gibbons seconded. Mrs Barrcr was appointed chairwoman for the annual election of the committee. Mrs Davis was unanimously re-elected president. Mesdames C. Davison and Dear did not seek reelection as secretary and treasurer, respectively, Mrs N. Rowe was appointed secretary and Mrs Wheeler treasurer. The vice-presidents are Mesdames Davison, Gibbons and Boswell; committed, Mesdames ' Powell, Bartlett, Luxford, Sandercock, P. Scott, Foster, Carter, Webb, Barker, Wallace, 11. Hamlin, Dear, McKay, A. Burgess, Jossop, W. Hill, Ransom, A. Hill, 11. Thompson, Pedley and Misses R. Saxton. N. Dear and Gibbons; advisory members, Mesdames Davis, N. Rowe, and Boyce, senr.; delegates to provincial meetings, Mesdames Foster and N. Rowe; Press correspondent, Miss N. Davies. The president announced a meeting would be held at the cemetery to help to°tidy up old settlers’ graves. There was a very interesting parade of old costumes, etc., among them being two beautiful hand-made and worked christening robes. ICO years and over 80 years old, respectively. The hand-made lace on some of the costumes was well worth seeing. The quaint old styles brought to the memory of the older members visions of mothers and others. There wore dresses 70 and over years old, brides’ and bridesmaids’ frocks, capes and riding dress of all styles ’ Mrs Barrel- spoke to the meeting for a short time on Women’s Division matters. ■"
