LAUNCH MISSING
THREE MEN ON BOARD. FEARS EOE FOXTON CRAFT (Special to “Standard.”) FOXTON. May 6. Anxiety is felt for the safety of the fishing launch Madge, owned by Mir S- R. Austin, of Foxton, ■which left Manawatu Heads on Friday morning for the fishing grounds and has not been seen or heard of since. Those on board are: MR CHARLES JENSEN, master, a fisherman, of Foxton. MR A. E. SANDS, of Manawatu Heads. THOMAS SANDS,, aged 18, son of Mr Sands. The vessel, a 35ft launch with a Diesel motor, was well-found and equipped. She left at 4 a.m. on Friday and was expected back that evening. After putting out to sea the craft returned on the tide on Friday with several hundredweight of fish and left again almost immediately. The Madge was equipped with 6ails for use in an emergency. Last month trouble was experienced with the gear-box of the launch and repairs were effected. It is possible that similar trouble has been encountered again. There is stated to have been some food on board, but little water Air Force ’planes have been searching the sea, so far without success. The weather was calm until yesterday when a sharp wind caused the sea to become rough.
