VALEDICTORY.

Oh Friday evening the foreman of the slaughtering hoard, Mr J. Flanagan, was tendered a farewell in the Orange Hall by the staff and employees of the Longburn freezing works. There were over 200 present. Mr Flanagan lias been for more than £0 years an employee at the works, for" over 42 years of which he has been a foreman. The employees made a presentation of an up-to-date radio set to Mr Flanagan, and a lady’s handbag for Mrs Flanagan. A toast list had been prepared and a splendid orchestra, consisting of Messrs C. Teppett, Ganderton, D’Ath, Gough, Wingate and Newitli rendered a good programme. Songs were given by Messrs. C. McAffer. Baker, and others; violin solos bv Mr Gough, and trumpet 'solos by Mr D’Ath, besides those who gave items during the toast list. Mr Flanagaa thanked all concerned for their kind expressions. Mr Wilson paid a, high tribute to Mr Flanagan’s qualities. Those responsible for the arrangements for the evening included Messrs J:\Mabey (.toastmaster), H. Anderson (president). O. Bartlett '■ (head. organiser), and Baker, D’Ath, (musical programme). It was decided to make such a sbeial .an . annual affair. Messrs Thompson and Giles,- of Wellington, were two visitor's who, took part in the proceedings. A photograph was taken of the party and altogether the proceedings were a credit to all concerned. 'Mr C. W. Teppett; acted as aceom-i panist. ■
