YOUNG BIRD SHOW

EXCELLENT DISPLAY, A find _arrav of feathered perfection was on view at the annual young bird show of the Palfnerston North Canary and Budgerigar Club, which was held on Saturday afternoon and 'evening. Entries: last year were a record and the same number were received this year—ll 6, comprising 60 budgerigars, 46 canaries and 10 foreign birds. The judges were: Canaries, Mr J. T. Brice; budgerigars, Mr E. J. Hickin; foreign birds, Mr G. Baird. Favourable comment on the high standard of birds entered was passed by the judges, who added that there was no eivdence of a diminution of interest among the bird fancier’s .of the district. The Inkpen Rose Bowl for the best canary in the show (it was also the best novice) was won by Mrs R. Lee for a lightly variegated buff male, while the Edmonds Cup for the best budgerigar, also a novice, was annexed by Mr G. W. Travers for a greyling sky blue. ’ The best foreign bird was a cuthroat goldfinch exhibited by Mr H. Lissington. Other leading exhibitors were: Best budgerigar (open), Mr H. G. Spence; best Yorkshire (open), Mrs H. R. Jones (Wanganui) ; best Norwich (open), Mr G. N. Walker (Dannevirke) ; best Norwich (novice) Mr W. Sutton. Awards are:— OPEN SECTION.
