Judges at the Manawatu Competitions tSoeiety’s festival who arrived in Palmerston Nortli yesterday are Miss Isabel Halligan, of Wellington (elocu; tion), Mrs M. C. Hannah, of Taranaki (national dancing), and Mr Claude H. Davies, of Christchurch (vocal and instrumental music), who is accompanied by Mrs Davies. Miss Colinette Low, daughter of Dr. and Mrs D. C Low. of Nelson, and granddaughter of Mr and Mrs D. W. Low, of Ihaka Street, Palmerston | North, was a debutante at the Marsden School ball, in Wellington, on Friday. Miss Low wore stiffened net with a vandyked waist of lace and motifs of the same lace over a full-flared skirt. Mrs Low wore a gown of cyclamen ninon. Mrs Lo.t is at present the guest of Mr and Mrs I>. W. Low. Among the war time novelties which have been recently introduced in Germany is the use of fishes’ skins for women’s clothing. A Frankfurt, firm specialises in their preparation. The skins of salmon, cod, and perch have been found especially suitable for the purpose. A current illustrated journal shows a photograph of a young woman wearing a blouse made in two -sorts of fish leather, one dyed green, the other yellow. A cod skin hood is shown in another picture. Cloth made of feathers is another article which was much advertised at the Leipzig Fair.
