RESIDENCE DESTROYED.
At about 3.30 o’clock this morning fire completely destroyed a five-roomed dwelling in Lower Woodlands Road owned by Mrs E. Cox, of Halcombe, and occupied by Mr and Mrs M. Priest. Mr Priest .was alone in the house at the time. In's wife and two children being in Wellington on holiday. He was occupying a back bedroom, and on being awakened by the noise of the" flames found the kitchen
ablaze and; had time to " escape with only a-few'articles or clothing. As the house wajs _ situated just' o.utsidc tlie borough boundary and lio 'water was available, the Woodville Fire-Brigade was not called. Air Priest aroused his neighbours, hut by that time the flames had complete charge and it was hopeless to attempt to extinguish them or salva'ge furniture. Air Priest, who is employed as a ganger Aby r the Public AA'orks Department on the Saddle Road deviation, is a heavy loser, there being no insurance on the contents, of the house, which included a. valuable library of hooks. The house.,.was insured for £250. The origin ■of • the outbreak is. not known. ? .
