The condition of Mrs M. Seaton, of 489 Main Street, Palmerston North, who was knocked down by a motortruck while watching the passing of a troop train on Tuesday evening is reported to be satisfactory. Mrs Seaton was taken to the Hospital suffering from injuries and slight concussion. At the annual general meeting of the Forest and Bird Protection Society Major .1. R. Kirk, M.8.E., moved the following resolution which was endorsed by the meeting: “The society appreciates and endorses the proclamation of a close season in 1941 for waterfowl; hut the society, while acknowledging the goodwill and assistance of Hon. W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, regrets that at the same time a close season for the sea-coast bird, the godwit, was not proclaimed. The society believes that in urging total protection for the godwit it is expressing the wish of the great majority of New Zealanders that as we enter upon another century of settlement this famous bird should be free from slaughter. The society regards as anomalous and dangerous a protection for waterfowl which does not include the godwit, and urges the Minister to cancel the proclamation of a shooting season for godwits in 1941.”
