MORE TROOPS WITHDRAWN

TRONDHEIM AND NAMSOS AREAS ■' ' *’ * ’ . ■ j. • «*•>-, ; : ■ . ’■ ' .. ' ■ . ’■ RE-EMBARKED WITHOUT LOSS ALLIED FORGES STILL AT NARVIK (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph —Copyright.) Received May 3, 9.50 a.m. LONDON, May 3. The War Office has announced that “Allied troops re-embarked without loss” at Namsos (between Trondheim and Narvik) last night. The Stockholm correspondents of both the British United Press and the Associated Press of Great Britain say the British and French troops have completely withdrawn from the Namsos district. The Norwegians have remained to face the oncoming Germans. The only Allied forces remaining in Norway are stationed in the Narvik region. A Daventry report states that the announcement of the departure of troops from Trondheim (further south) and Namsos has caused no surprise in London, where the latter move had been expected since Mr Chamberlain’s announcement of the withdrawal from Andalsnes. These all form part of a single plan. The withdrawal and re-embarkation were carried out with marked success. The War Office communique adds that the Allied troops advancing in the Narvik area were counter-attacked on May 1 and 2 by the enemy. Both attacks were repulsed and many dead were left in front of our positions, and some prisoners were taken by the Allied troops.
