FEUDING STOCK SALE.
STATION CATTLE UNSTEADY. FAT SHEEP ADVANCE. At the Foilding stock sale, yesterday, the' heavy yarding of station cattle met with a mixed reception, ■ with ' prices for the older cattle inclined to fluctuate while the younger cattle prices were slightly easier. There were seme passings. Fat. cattle sold on a firm, market, prices being fully up to recent quotations. There was no change in the tone of the market for dairy cattle, which commanded the usual good inquiry. Last week's rates for boner cows were maintained. There was a brighter tone in the fat. sheep section, whore both owo and wether mutton values advanced. Storo sheep, however, i„et, with a setback and only tho best ol the breeding ewes made late rates. Lambs wore about on a par. STORE CATTLE. AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. The Associated Auctioneers report: — There was a large ottering ot stock, and in the store sheep section the entry totalled approximately SUOO sheep, as against a little under 4000 last week. Tho inquiry was firm lor all sound-mouth lines at prices quite on a par with last week’s rates, top woolly, black face lambs making 21s; top woolly wether lambs, 15s 6d; medium owe lambs, 16s 8d to 20» fid; store wethers, 21s to 225; 4 and 5-yr ewes r.w. Southdown rains, 15s 9d to 16s lOd. In -the fat sheep section 729 head were yarded, . and prices were up about Is per head on last week, which we attribute to a good attendance of buyers, including one or two outside butchers who were operating on the better [ions. Run cattle: Yesterday was really the annual autumn cattle fair, but the yarding, which comprised 1041 head, was smaller than that of recent years. The entry comprised three or four pens of 3j and. 4g-year bullocks, the balance of the being occupied by 1J; and 22-year cattle, with a few odd pens of c-ows and heifers. Wiih the exception of two or three pens of good condition cattle which sold under reasonable competition, the market was dead, and a most disappointing' sale resulted, values showing a drop on recent sales. However, in most cases vendors were prepared to meet the values of -the day and the bulk of the yarding changed hands. In the dairy section there was a small yarding, and the quality, very mixed, very few “classy” cattle coining forward. A keen inquiry was evident for better sorts of dairy stock at very firm rates. In tho boner pens, the usual yarding of cows and heifers sold under good competition and recent rates wore fully maintained. In die beef section there was a full yarding of good quality pons cl station cows’ and heifers, and the usual pumbor of ex-dairy sorts. Competition was reasonably firm for the primer quality and prices were very similar to last week’s sale.
