An attempt had been nmde to poison Madame Marguerite Carre, Ahe leading soprano at the Opera Comique stated a report from Paris. Two of Madame Carre’s guests were reported to be seriously ill as the result of being poisoned. The Daily Mail (London) had offered a further £IO,OOO as prize-money for the person who flew between London and Paris. Eleven were for buildings. : A London report stated that Sullivan. Barry’s trainer for the world’s sculling championship match on the Zambesi River against R. Arnst, had resigned owing- to a disagreement with the management committee. The death had occurred of one of the men who was injured when the Otira Tunnel collapsed at the Bealey end. Two of the men were still imprisoned in the works.
