PERSONAL. Miss D. Eilers', of Victoria Street, is spending a holiday at Oriental Ray, Wellington. Mrs J. McTavish, ol Arthur Street, is at present in inmate of the Pahiatua Hospital. . BADMINTON. Players from the Palmerston North and Woodville Badminton Clubs were present at the opening night of the Pahiatua Badminton Club, on Thursday. Mr L. Heayns (patron) extended a welcome to tile visitors and new members, Mr J. T. McDonald, of Palmerston North, and Miss Grinlinton, of Woodville, replying on behalf of the visitors. SCHOOL TENNIS.' The Pahiatua District High School Tennis Club closed its season this week. The winners of the competitions were: —Girls’ championship singles: lsobel Heayns. Boys’ championship singles: Q. Holdaway. Girls’ handicap singles: lsobel Heayns. Boys’ handicap singles: S. Beales. Girls’ handicap doubles: lsobel Heayns and Carol Tlierkleson. Mixed handicap doubles: R. Therkleson and M. Wilson. 'notes. Building activity in the borough of Pahiatua and the county showed an increase over the previous year, last month. In the borough, one permit for £1350 was issued, compared with one for £75 in April, 1939. The county figures were four permits valued at £3500 last month, and three to a value of £IOOO in April last year. There has been an increase in the number of motor driving licenses issued, there being seven issued by the borough last month, compared with five for the corresponding month last year.
