GIRL GUIDES.
EXECUTIVE MEETS. The Palmerston North Girl Guides’ Association met yesterday, Mrs G. A. Eliott (District Commissioner) presiding. Also present were Mesdames N. Ratcliffe, S. Cooper, L. McNabb, T. Findlay Wilson, J. M. Roberts, J. L. C. Merton, J. Kennedy, J. H. Whyte, Misses C. Warburton and Grant. Mrs Eliott reported that the Guiders’ training camp had at short notice been transferred from Palmerston North to Woodford House, Havelock North. This meant that several of the Palmerston North Guiders would not be able to attend and only Misses S. Spears (Takaro) and D. Wild (Feilding) would be making the trip. Miss I. Stuart tendered her resignation as a Guider and expressed her thanks for a gilt from the executive and for many kindnesses.—The resignation was accepted with regret, good wishes having been conveyed at a farewell evening. Members agreed to assist the All Saints’ Ranger Company until an appointment in Miss Stuart’s place is made. Mrs Wilson reported on the Brownie revels held in Mrs E. C. Barnett’s garden, which had been most successful. Mrs Eliott reported progress on the drive for clothes to send to refugee children. The vice-presidents had made cash donations and some material had been allocated from headquarters. It was left to Mrs Eliott to make necessary purchases, various members offering to make and knit garments. The question of examination for the first class badge was discussed and a committee comprising Misses C. Warburton (chairman), M. Poole, N. Davis (Rongotea) and J. Stevens, set ui>. Mention was made that Miss Joyce Stevens, Guider at St. Paul’s Company. is shortly to he married, and felicitations are to he conveyed to her. COMPANY-ACTIVITIES. The Takaro (6tli Palmerston North) Guide Company held a parents’ evening recently. There was a large attendance and the Brownies participated. Each patrol contributed an item to the programme, the whole company joined in the folk dance “Black Nag,” and the Brownies gave a singing dance item. Supper was served by the patrol seconds. At a ceremonial, Shirley Williams, Vivienne Brougham, Louie Hoskins, Phyllis Humphries, Jacqueline Sturm, Jessie Whyte, Betty Dixon and Gwen Westwood were enrolled as Guides. The District Commissioner (Mrs Eliott) was welcomed and she presented second-class badges to Sylvie King, Joy Penketh, Phyllis Cook and Helen Northover. Presentations were made to Miss I. Stuart (captain), who is leaving after three years with the company. A ceremonial gathering was held l>y All Saints’ Ranger Company on Wednesday. when Norma Carr, Gwen Bennette arid Inez Lyall were enrolled. Programmes were discussed and further garments cut out for the relief scheme. Miss Stuart was with the com- 1 pany for the last time. St. Paul’s (sth Palmerston North) Guide Company have been studying the points of the compass in patrol time and through playing a game. It; was decided to hold a games period of r a quarter of an hour before the com-j paiiy meeting. Games and songs were I enjoyed and the Kauri Head was wori j by the Kowhai Patrol. ]
