BRITISH PURCHASE TAX.
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, May 1. Following the Chancellor of the Exchequer (Sir John Simon) in the discussion on the proposed purchase tax in the House of Commons, Mr Petliick Lawrence (Labour) expressed keen disappointment that the Chancellor had not given more information. The House and the country had been in the dark for a long time. He feared the tax would have a serious effect on tlie cost of living. The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Captain H. F. C. Crookshank) said tiie House as a whole was reserving its judgment on the purchase tax.
