NATIONAL SERVICE
ADVOCATED BY R.S.A. CEITICAL PEEIOD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 3. Reference to the withdrawal of the Allies from Southern Norway was made at the annual conference of the R.S.A. to-day, and a resolution was carried urging the of compulsory universal national aeivice. The Dominion president (Hon. W. Perry) said the Empire had reached a crisis in its existence, and it was the duty of the returned soldiers to give a lead in asking for the maximum effort from the Dominion. The loss of the war would mean more to New Zealand than Britain, because the Dominion would become a German colony. The resolution stated, that the R.S.A. was emphatically of opinion that, to obtain the maximum effort and the earlier ,end to the present hostilities, it was imperative to demand equality of sacrifice, and that could only be obtained by a national register and compulsory national service. Speakers pointed out that the voluntary system was only bringing in the men required at present, and that those enlisting were bearing the burden for all the others. The resolution was carried unanimously.
