POPULAR CONCERT.

SCHOOL BATHS FUND. j An enthusiastic audience attended tlie combined community sing and concert held at the Opera House, on Wednesday evening, the proceeds from which are to help defray the expenses of repairing the children’s baths at the Central School. With Mr Gladstone Hill acting as song leader and master of ceremonies, the entertainment proved most popular. An impromptu item on the programme was the singing of “Daisy’’ by a group of small boys, their effort bi'inging forth well-deserved applause. The radio artists accompanying Mr Hill were Miss Ena Rapley, Miss Leslie Hill, Mr B. Hickford and Mr E. Bell. Several pianoforte solos were contributed by Mr Bell, these items being loudly applauded. He also acted as accompanist for all the items. The singing of Miss Rapley and Mr Hickford was much appreciated. and they were frequently recalled. At the conclusion of the programme, Mr W. G. Black, chairman of the Central School Committee, extended his appreciation, on behalf of the school, to Mr Hill and his party for providing the entertainment. The programme included the following numbers: Miss Rapley (solo), “God Defend New Zealand” ; community singing, “God Defend New Zealand,” “Sons of the Sea,” “There’s a Long Long Trail,” “Keep the Home Eires Burning,” “Daisy”; Miss Rapley, “I Wonder if Love is a Dream,” “Ah. Sweet Mystery of Life”; Mr Hickford, “The GreenEyed Dragon,” “Tramp, Tramp”; musical monologue, featuring Miss Hall as “Snow White” in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” ; community singing, “Peggy O’Neil,” “There’s Something About a Soldier,” “Little Sir Echo,” “Till We Meet Again” ; Miss Rapley, “By the Waters of Minnetonka”; Mr Hickford, “The Glory Road,” “Shortenin’ Bread”; Miss Wilson, “Sing Joyous Bird”; community singing, “Annie Laurie,” “Love’s Old Sweet Song,” “Freedom’s Army,” “Land of Hope and Glory”; Miss Hall, “Bracket of Nursery Rhymes”; Mr Hickford? “Gentleman, the King,” “The Company Sergeant-Major”; Miss Rapley, “Down in the Forest.”
