AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
It was decided at a meeting of the Palmerston North Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, on AVednesday, to make Mr C. AI. Stagpoole the first life member of the club. Air Stagpool© has been connected with atnletics in this district and other parts of New Zealand for a long period. He first became associated with athletics here when the AJanawatu Amateur Athletic Club aided his reinstatement from professional to amateur status. It is interesting to recall that his father, the late Sergeant Al. D. Stagpoole, of the Police Force at Palmerston North, inaugurated the Alanawatu club in 1904. During the time he was a pro*essional, Mr C. M. Stagpoole performed at sports meetings in the South Island and in the Gisborne district. He also acted as secretary of the Hawke’s Bay and Wanganui clubs and was a member of the Alasterton club for a number of years. ■
