WAR IN NORWAY
DEFENCE MORE ASSERTIVE. , NAZIS FORCED BACK. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) LONDON, May 1. After yesterday’s batch of German claims frpin Norway; some of which wore' a grim appearance of truth, to-day’s lack of. confirmation of the invaders’ succesyes,-','p'his.O" the evidence of .considerable 'AN'. lied activity in various Norwegian; ' zones, provides grouhu for. a somewhat brighter assessment- of,,the general position. ' ' V Too much importance should not be attached, to the German withdrawal from Boros, in the Oster Valley, but apparently the Norwegians are more spiritedly operating in this district as well as between Tionso and Narvik, where the Norwegian Sixth Division is reported to have cleared the Germans from Gratangen. According to Swedish reports the Allies repulsed the Germans advancing from Stenkjaer and tile Norwegians wiped out two patrols in their sector. The Hegre fortress remains a thorn in the German side on the Trondheim front for which reason it was subjected to venomous attacks to-day which tlie garrison heavily repulsed. Apart from Dombas, through which the Germans claim their troops are moving towards Andalsnes, on the coast, the heaviest fighting appears to centre in the Jerkin area. the Norwegians are resisting the Germans at Foldal, on the mountain road between Oster Valley and Jerkin. It is reported that British and Trench troops have reinforced Norwegians opposing the German advance inland from Bergen. .
