PATRIOTIC FUND

SUBSTANTIAL GIFTS. WELLINGTON, May 2. The National Patriotic Fund total has reached £IOO,OOO as the result of donations received since last week. At the annual meeting of shareholders of It. Hannah and Co.. Ltd., it was decided to donate £IOOO to the fund for distribution as follows:

£250 for Y.M.C.A. work overseas, £250 to the Salvation Army for services to soldiers, and £250 each to the Red Cross and Order of St. John of Jerusalem .for the provision of comforts for sick and wounded men. Tho board received the cheque yesterday. Another substantial cheque was for £4OO from T. J. Edmonds. Ltd., Christchurch. In addition the firm has given £IOO each toward the Christchurch appeals for the Y.M.C.A., tho Salvation Army, and the Red Cross Society.
