ASHHURST.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASI-IHURST, May 1. A patriotic meeting was hold in the Ashhurst; library on April 30 when those, present were Mesons M. Murphy (chairman). It. A. Jones ‘(secretary),, V. Muldroek, J. Flowers, 11. Woodroofe, F. A. Deinstall, W. N Brewer, A’. Stephan, and Meudaines .Knapp and R. Cook. A letter was received from the Feilding Patriotic Committee, stating all the particulars and conditions necessary for the functioning of a. local conimititec. It was decided to obtain permission to appoint collectorn to - collect funds in aid of the national fund and (lie provincial fund, four-filths of the proceeds for the former and one-fifth for tile Jailer, fund. A house to house eanvtim will be made in the near future, and the committee is arranging to hold functions regularly throughout the year for patriotic purposes. Messrs Du rust all and Brewer were appointed to approach several local bodies requesting that functions oilier Ilian patriotic lie withheld so that the utmost may .be done for the benefit of-the men in camp, at the front, and •on their return. The ■ whole-hearted support of this worthy' cause is being requested from the residents and settlors of the distYifct.
