(From Our Own Correspondent.) FOXTON, April 26. ... W. Mains, of To Awainutu, is visiting his sister, Mrs S. .E. Cowley, of Main Street. Rev. Father N. M. Foley is at present an inmate of a Wellington hospital. During Father Foley’s absence, Rev. Father Hcrlihy is in charge of St. Mary’s Church.

At a meeting of the Foxton Centennial Memorial Committee the chairman (Mr M. E. Perreau) Said that, owing to circumstances which had arisen, it'had been impctisible to hold the proposed celebration on February 3 as previously arranged. He suggested that the celebration should take place some time next spring and this was agreed to. Mr Hale submitted a plan of the lay-out of the proposed children’s playground, and was empowered' to purchase whatever gear lie thought ncccesary, Anzac Day was fittingly celebrated here. In the morning a parade! of returned men was held and at the Town Hall proceedings opened 'with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by introductory remarks by the Mayor (Air Al. E. Perreau). The Scripture reading was by Adjutant Christopher and a prayer was delivered by Rev. J. F. Amos (Methodist). Aire J. F. Riches contributed a solo entitled “The Home Land,” the accompaniment being played by Airs R. N. Spoil's. The address was given by Rev. E. F. Bush (Presbyterian). At the conclusion of the service the parade adjourned to the* Triangle, where wreaths were laid on the monument and the ceremony concluded with the sounding of the Last. Post by Sergeant Bugler B. J. Walls and the rendering of “Yale Alatcr” by the band. A request recently made to the children of the local primary school by the Patriotic Committee, that they collect buttons for the liussifs being made for the soldiers serving overseas, resulted in 3200 buttons being collected in 24 hours. At the secondary department of the District High School the boys organised a fund and with the money purchased wool which the girls are knitting into balaclavas, scarves, bed socks, etc., for the Rod Cross Society. An inquest into the circumstances surrounding the death of Fay Aldridge, aged five years, daughter of Air and Airs G. A. Aldridge, of Russel! Street, .who died on April 2, was held before Air J. S. Aloir, Coroner. A verdict was returned that deceased met her death as the result of shock and haemorrhage due to the rear wheel of a motor lorry driven thy W. F. Conlay passing over her after she had fallen off the running board of the lorry, on which she was riding. At a meeting of the Loyal Foxton Lodge arrangements were made for the half-yearly installation and a visit to Levin. Among those who have enlisted for overseas service and who _ wore called up for medical examination in Levin last week wore Alessrs V. C. G. Husband and J. Berry, of Foxton. The induction of Rev. J. F. Amos was performed in the Alcthodist Church by Rev. 11. L. Fiebig. The death occurred at the Palmerston North Hospital of a highly esteemed and well-known Foxton resident in the person of Airs Alary Ann Woodham, wife of Air William Edward Woodham, of Norbitoti Road. Airs Woodham was taken ill suddenly on Friday evening. She was born at Blenheim in 1876, and was married in Foxton, where she had resided for many years. She was a keen gardener and an enthusiastic member of the Foxton Horticulture Society. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Ladies’ Cuild, and formerly of tlie Women’s Institute, resigning on account of indifferent health. Air and Airs Woodham had made arrangements to leave to-day on a motor trip to the north, and her sudden demise on the eve of their departure makes her death even more tragic. • Playing at Alanakau on Saturday afternoon Foxton seniors ' beat Kuku-Manakau by' 14 points to 12. In a match played on Easton Park . Foxton' juniors 22 beat Air Force juniors 9. The annual meeting of the Roxton Tire Board was held last week when Alt' A. IT. Clerko (Wellington) was re-olcctcd chairman. The annual report showed that the brigade is at full''strength arid the plant operating efficiently. 1 ivc cal.s were leceived during the year, for minor outbieaks, the total fire loss amounting to only £2, compared with £1420 for the previous twelve months. The total amount of premiums collected in Foxton from the 33 insurance companies ouerating locally, amounted to £1323 16s 10d.'
