INADEQUATE DIET.
CERMANS UNDER-NOURISHED , April 2f» An analysis by the Department of Agriculture shows that Germany entered the present war with a large proportion of her population already inadequately nourished. In 1937 the diet of at' least 15 per cent, was below both, the 1927 and pre-Great War levels. There were reasons to assume that' it further deteriorated between 1937’ and August, 1939. Tlie analysis added that the situation, was not likely to result in serious maladjustments in the first year of war, hut the staying power and probably the health of those outside the preferred ration category would be endangered unless it was possible to augment the ration for the normal consumer.
