AUSTRALIA AND,SINGAPORE. LONDON, April 30 Tlic British United Press correspondent in Berlin sends an extract from an editorial in which the paper AUgcmcine Zcitung appears to suggest that the United States has quietly taken over the “protection” of Australia and Singapore in the event oL'an emergency. The writer declares that America is acting differently from 20 years ago. She is not waiting until tho end of tho war to carry out her plans. Howovor, the assumption that England cannot be defeated is no longer true. The British United Press extract concludes: “A German victory will work to Japanese advantage and divert America from the policy of ‘keeping a tight rein on Japan’ after having taken over tho protection of Austrajia and Singapore.”
