The Times’s Rotterdam correspondent says the Reich Coal Commissioner Ilerr Paul Walter has appealed to householders, theatres and restaurants to cease heating. He urged the importance of restricting consumption on the home front in order to relieve the transport system and also to enable Germany to fulfil her contract to supply Italy with 12,000,000 tons of coal annually. The authorities are doing their utmost to combat the inevitable shortage next winter. The British United Press Berlin correspondent says that the petrol shortaye continues to drive cars from the streets throughout Germany. As a result of the latest restriction 25 per cent, of the remaining cars, including taxis, have been laid up in many cities. Only 1000 taxis remain in Ber-
