SCOTCH THISTLE SOCIETY
The annual meeting of the Scotch Thistle Society was held recently. The society was inaugurated in April, 1939, to foster national dancing and solo piping. In January it became possible for it to hold in Palmerston North one of the finest sports meetings of -its kind ever held in New Zealand, it received over 2CO entries in the national dancing events and over 30 entries, in the piping, and good entries in the amateur and field events. This was very pleasing to the executive, led by their chief (Air J. N. McMillan) and supported by a strong ladies’ committee. It was decided at this meeting io hold another of these gatherings in January, 1941, and in an endeavour to increase the prize moneys in all events the ladies are conducting dances. The balancesheet showed that the society is in a very strong position Pules were brought forward by the secretary in which the societv pledges itself to uphold the traditions of Scotland. After a lengthy discussion these were confirmed and the following _ were elected to office: Chief, Air J. N. AfcAlillan; executive. Messrs H. Doyle. W Woodroofe. K. T. Burrell. AY. Cruden, E. Conway, G. Esau and G. Webb: ladies’ committee, Alesdames AlcAl illan. Iloldsworth. AYoodroofo. McDowall. sour., McDouall. junr.. Burrell, Conway; lion, secretary. Air D. AY. J. AieDowah. At the close of the meeting the executive elected Air AToAfillan as delegate to the AYellington Centro of the New Zealand Piping and Dancing Association.
