CITY RIVER WORKS.
BOARD'S MEETING: At the nleeting of the Palmerston North River Board, .yesterday, Mr A. E. Hansford presiding, a letter was received from Hr A. R. Palmer stating that lie wished to make use of material suitable for river protection work at Stuart’s bend, and asked lor assistance from the board. It was decided to defer consideration of this till after the visit of the Minister of Public Works (Hon. R. Semple), who is coming to Palmerston A ortli shortly. The reconciliation statement showed a credit balance of £753 17s ( Jd, compared with a credit of £9S9 3s Sd at the beginning of April. The overseer (Hr A. Lane) reported on the progress of maintenance work on groynes. In accordance with notice of motion, Trustee J. T. J. Meatley moved that a statement be propaied showing the revenue derived from the board since its inauguration and the localities where such revenue has been expended. Trustee Meatley said that he wished that some understanding be arrived at of the money spent in every locality. Such a statement had never been prepared. There would hnve to be a readjustment by the board at some time or another. The clerk (Mr J. R. Hardie) said that it would be a most laborious task to supply these figures. The chairman said that it would take from 6ix"to seven months of clerical work. Trustee Heatloy altered the motion to read “that the board be supplied with the source of revenue oyer five years and the expenditure as revealed by the books,” and this was carried. Trustee J. Hodgens, M.P., moved that a statement be prepared showing the river mileage incorporated in the citv area and the county area by the board. The motion was carried. A motion was passed fixing the board’s overdraft limit for the coming year at £4OOO.
