MANAWATU ASSOCIATION. At the annual general meeting of the Manawatu Table I ennis Association the report, reviewed a successful year so far as the development of the game was concerned. “Ihe association held four open handicap tournaments, and each was a decided success. The concluding tournament was won by Muss C. Bcarsley, with Mr C. Griffiths runner-up, and these two players won outright the two silver buttons. Miss Bearsley also won the best attendance cup. For the inter-club championships the teams were divided into four grades, A B C and Mercantile. The winners were: A grade, Terrace End; B grade, Sanson; C grade, Sanson; Mercantile,- Nurseries. Representative fixtures during the season were: Versus Taranaki at Stratford, won; v. Taranaki at Palmerston North, won; v. Wairarupa at Masterton, drew; v. Wanganui at Palmerston North, lost: v. Wcl-lington-llutt at Palmerston North, lost. The committee extends congratulations to the following who took part: Messrs G. Sykes, R. Buchanan, R. Rowland, C. Ilarvery, L. I.inkpen, B. Dalziel, L. Sweetman, Misses 1,. Hughes, C. Bcars'.ey, -J. Quignn, M. Butler and F. Leask. Wo also extend congratulations to Mr Rowland, who won the Taranaki men’s open singles title, and also to Miss Hughes, who won the following ladies’ open singles titles; North Island, Manawatu, Wanganui and Taranaki. - Miss Hughes did not lose one representative or championship match in which she took part. A heavy financial burden was faced at the commencement of the season, and we could not overtake our outstanding obligation to the New Zealand association. Many of last year’s expenses should not occur again.” The election resulted : Patron, Mr J. Gallichan; president and chairman of executive, Mr R. Rowland : vice-presidents, Messrs N. Hansen, M. Millar. C. Spencer, W. Skinner, D. Roche, A. E. Hansford, 11. G". Oollinson, F. Cousins: secretary, Mr L. 11. Inkpen; treasuier, Mr C. Harvey; recorder, Mr B. Dalziel; executive, Messrs B. Dalziel, B. Bambcry, C. Gandy, L. Sweetman, B. McMurray, D. McMurray; delegate to association, Mr C. McLaren (Lower Ilutl). Considerable discussion took place on the advisability of all teams in all gradet constituting four players, games to bo of three sets 21 up, advantage in each set, and four games of doubles to be played. —This was agreed to. For this season all grades will play 4-a-sidc. A ladies’ competition. has been inaugurated, teams to be of four ladies, but the players must not be of A, B or C standard.
